Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
