The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface after March of that year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has secured 21 victories at 21 various events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children together, so to get a championship is particularly special," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev's retrieving approach and recurring reactions on court had prompted some to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an better serve.

He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a decider.

He defended 4 early-game break points in a competitive deciding set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
